Now that wedding season is in full swing, we are seeing more and more fun, unique and personalized bouquets. Bouquets are not just for flowers anymore! If you are allergic to flowers or just want to be more environmental friendly then why not look into using something out of the box? Many brides are using materials such as seashells with crystals, dyed pine cones with feathers, ribbons with lace and even twisted metal to create their own unique bouquet. SO if you are looking for a way to avoid using flowers, or you want to create a memorable keepsake, then why not find something personal to you and turn it into a fun and totally unique bouquet.
Try looking at the color range or theme you have already picked out for your wedding and use that as inspiration. For example, you could use the color royal blue and then try finding different items that are in the same blue family. Or, you can use buttons, fabric renderings, ribbons, peacock feathers, beads, dyed stems and even newspaper. Consider using the newspaper from the day of your wedding. It may require a little more planning, but how completely unique and very personal would that be!

Susan Stockwell of Palmer Flowers in Fort Collins says she has even used family rosary’s or bibles passed down from generations, as well as, cameo brooches or grandmothers lockets and lots of vintage embellishments in some of her creations. In the images above Susan used special family charms, pins and wraps to make the bouquet unique to the bride. It’s also a great way to express “in memory” or something borrowed or blue!
The brooch bouqet is also gaining in popularity. There are several Etsy stores selling these pre-made or you can make your own by asking family members to give you fun brooches, pins, rings, clips or necklaces. Creating your own will not only provide you with something sentimental to remember your wedding day, it will also let everyone have a part of your special day as they see you walking down the aisle.
In the following images Ria Erickson, owner of Nature’s Grace Design, uses beautiful south american roses, vibrant blue thistle and bendable wood to create a “naturally unique” bouquet. The bendable wood is a really fun item to use as it can bend in different shapes and directions around the flowers for more of an abstract or funky look.
If you are still looking for other ideas, brooches and sticks are not the only way to go environmental friendly. Try out felt flowers or even flowers that are purely beaded, this could be a great way to tie in your color theme and it would be a fun activity to have with your bridal party.
